Having the opportunity to process the company’s DTI Business Name permit exposed me in the reality of what it’s like to work on the business side of architecture and I am thankful for my mentor for giving me the opportunity to experience it and for being patient with me for all of my mistakes and struggles while processing the DTI Business Name permit. This experience inspires me to venture more in the business side of architecture and I hope that, in the future, opportunities like this will come up.
During my apprenticeship at Concipio Tektura, I was assigned to process the renewal of the company’s DTI Business Name permit. I never had an experience in processing permits nor have I stepped foot in a DTI Field Office but the task was a chance to experience it all and become knowledgeable in the process. I was first tasked to research the requirements in renewing the DTI Business Name permit but struggled in finding information as the DTI website only provided information about applying for a DTI Business Name permit, some websites provided information which I learned were outdated after all. Only when I went to a DTI Field Office with the knowledge of only bringing a filled out application form, a back up application form, renewal fee, my mentor’s ID and a photocopy of it, was I informed of missing an authorization letter signed by my mentor to process the company’s DTI Business Name permit, a valid ID of my own and a photocopy of it. © Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio I learned right after not only to research online but also to actually call any DTI office for direct information about renewing the DTI Business Name permit. I struggled again when I was finally able to secure all requirements only to arrive around 2:00 pm at the nearest DTI Field Office near the office to find it was already cut off due to the system being down. I arrived again at the same DTI Field Office a day after at around 12:00 pm only to be cut offed again also due to the system being down. On my third try, I finally learned my lesson that the system would be down for a while and so I arrived around 9-10:00 am and was finally able to process the DTI Business Name permit 6 hours later. It was a challenge to embark on a skill that I had to learn on the spot. But because I didn’t want to fail. I took the time to learn and practice videography and video editing so that I will be able to do the task correctly. Along the way the video production task helped me learn the value of communication and connection. I had to communicate to other people in under a time limit and with that, I had to properly compose everything in order to connect with the viewer very well. This task helped me how to organize my thoughts and interpret it into words properly. © Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio PROJECT MANAGEMENT As an architecture student, I didn’t have any exposure on what an architect really does in the real world. When I joined as an apprentice in Concipio Tektura, that was when my knowledge about the profession expanded. The principal architect, Ar. Baño took us on a field work in Mamplasan, Laguna. There I discovered that the principal architect was the Project Manager of the project. I questioned it at first but in the end, I appreciated the work very well. A project manager is also a big responsibility as they are the ones who will over look the project of their client. They value their client’s time, cost and. They also mitigate the risks of the project. Lessening any casualties and excesses in materials or cost. I also appreciate that we were given the opportunity to watch the general meeting of the professionals involved in the project. We observed the different people collaborating in order to complete a project. There were arguments here and there but at the end of the day all of them are working together for the betterment of the project. It was also surprising to see that even if the building is under construction already there still revisions and changes happening on the spot. And it was nice to see that these professionals are able to agree and disagree properly on the things that matter in the project. The trip to Mamplasan, Laguna was very life changing indeed. It made me realize that the drawings and the renderings are just first steps of the actual job. The next steps are the ones that I am eager to learn along the way and I’m lucky enough to learn a part of it during my apprenticeship in Concipio Tektura. |
