Having the opportunity to process the company’s DTI Business Name permit exposed me in the reality of what it’s like to work on the business side of architecture and I am thankful for my mentor for giving me the opportunity to experience it and for being patient with me for all of my mistakes and struggles while processing the DTI Business Name permit. This experience inspires me to venture more in the business side of architecture and I hope that, in the future, opportunities like this will come up.
During my apprenticeship at Concipio Tektura, I was assigned to process the renewal of the company’s DTI Business Name permit. I never had an experience in processing permits nor have I stepped foot in a DTI Field Office but the task was a chance to experience it all and become knowledgeable in the process. I was first tasked to research the requirements in renewing the DTI Business Name permit but struggled in finding information as the DTI website only provided information about applying for a DTI Business Name permit, some websites provided information which I learned were outdated after all. Only when I went to a DTI Field Office with the knowledge of only bringing a filled out application form, a back up application form, renewal fee, my mentor’s ID and a photocopy of it, was I informed of missing an authorization letter signed by my mentor to process the company’s DTI Business Name permit, a valid ID of my own and a photocopy of it. © Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio I learned right after not only to research online but also to actually call any DTI office for direct information about renewing the DTI Business Name permit. I struggled again when I was finally able to secure all requirements only to arrive around 2:00 pm at the nearest DTI Field Office near the office to find it was already cut off due to the system being down. I arrived again at the same DTI Field Office a day after at around 12:00 pm only to be cut offed again also due to the system being down. On my third try, I finally learned my lesson that the system would be down for a while and so I arrived around 9-10:00 am and was finally able to process the DTI Business Name permit 6 hours later. As a student intern of Concipio Tektura, aside from designing, I was assigned to process the renewal of business permit. I already have experiences in obtaining a TCT and requesting for maps in city halls. Though I was not familiar to the process of securing the renewal of business permit, I was positive that I’d be able to accomplish it and learn new things. Before starting the task, I have read first a previous blog last December 2016. It gave me ideas of the things I have to prepare and procedures I have to accomplish. After being given the necessary documents and budget, I started following the procedures right away. Upon processing the renewal, I encountered slight differences so I just asked the staff in city hall. © Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio Some requirements need to be renewed as well so it must be accomplished or processed first. I went first to San Antonio Barangay Hall for the renewal of Barangay Business Clearance of Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio. © Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio After the renewal of Barangay Business Clearance, I went to Makati City Hall. I told the guard I was going to process the renewal of business permit and insurance. Upon hearing it, he accompanied me to the office of a local insurance which is located outside the building of city hall. I showed the previous insurance to the staff. She asked me if I was going to renew business permit and then she gave me a triplicate copy of application form. After filling out the application form for business permit, I paid for the insurance and notarization of the application form. Finally, after securing the renewal of other requirements for business permit. I proceeded to Makati City Hall Building II. Below are the steps to renew business permit: © Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio After receiving the new business and sanitary permit, go to Sanitary Permit Division. The following are the requirements to have your sanitary permit stamped: © Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio Aside from securing the renewal of business permit, I was also assigned to renew the Professional Tax Receipt (PTR) of Ar. Eric Baño. I went to Miscellaneous Taxes Fees Charges Division, Counter H in Makati City Hall New Building. To renew your PTR, show the previous PTR and the staff will assess how much you need to pay. After the assessment, pay the corresponding amount at the same counter you are transacting with. It took me (4) four days (Dec. 11, 13, & 14, 2018 and Jan. 8, 2019) to process the renewal of Concipio Tektura with total expenses of ₱10,998. Actually, all these transactions could be accomplished within 1 to 2 days. If you have all the requirements, photocopies, and an amount of money, there would be no hassle. Also, I processed the renewal in advance (December) so there was no long queue of applicants. © Concipio Tektura Architectural Design Studio This task made me realize that architecture is not only about the strength, functionality, and beauty of a building. It also has a business side. One of it is securing a business permit especially if you want to run your own firm. Most architecture graduates probably entered the profession unaware of it. Students don't learn the business side of architecture in school though some professors share their experiences. I have learned the importance of doing things by yourself would make you understand further how things work. Do not only rely on the books, information on internet, or lectures in school. Expose yourself on different sides of architecture to gain knowledge and experience. |
