In my apprenticeship program, I was tasked to do specification writing. This task captured my attention after learning about it in Building Technology 4 and finding it challenging because of how crucial and detailed it is. As I have observed based on my experience and observation, not everyone has enough knowledge of what it is and how it goes. Being able to do learn and do it properly during apprenticeship gave me an advantage as I learn the technical information about building materials, being exposed to manufacturers and brands that are not mainstream and, having this huge responsibility not anyone could have.
Making a video presentation about specification writing as our final requirement before finishing this program gave me and my co-apprentice the opportunity to share what we’ve learned. While doing the video presentation, we have encountered numerous problems.
At first this task may seem not related to the tasks of Architects that we know. Some may ask, as a future architect, what is the connection of the video presentation to those working drawings you have been doing for the past years? But I saw it as another way to show an ability that an architect to be should have – the confidence, the creativity and the presentation skills.
